I was just looking at the photos of bridges over the American River Parkway. The first gives me eerie feelings everytime I look at it. The second photo is an overview, and I notice to the north of the bridge there are sand bars or reefs. I don't know what time of year the image was taken, but, looks to me like a lot of people could have crossed it.
How would that area be in the summer months? I know how lakes and rivers are here. Depending on rains and drought.

ista, yes there are sandbars that you are seeing in the photo. There is somewhat of an illussion in the photo since the sun is reflecting on the water and makes it look you can step right across without hardly getting your feet wet. Whenever the river narrows it gets deep and fast. The picture appears to have been taken in late April (unknown year) since everything is green and there are leaves on the trees. Come around the end of May the grass lands dry up and turn a golden color.
