I have taken the above-mentioned call and tried to clean it up, taking out all of the most caller's content, so that we can hear what is going on in the background. This tape has been edited down, also be careful when listening it has be amplified. I hear 4 people, in order of appearance,a older woman, a young woman, a man and a child at the end. My thoughts are that the older woman is a mom, the young women is talking to her dad about a loan payment. The mother tells her to "make a payment every once and awhile" and to "work" The mother at the end of the call I believe says to the caller, something to the effect of "are you making a call or waiting for a call". At the end an automated voice saying"full". I would be interest in what you guys think. This is a cleaner version than the one I posted on AE a couple of days ago To download please see below link. www.filedropper.com/january1978calltovictimeditedandamped-copy

Excellent job. I'm waiting for a set of headphones so I can do it justice. It's very clear as it is, but I can't tell what's being said with just the PC speakers.

UPDATE: At 21 seconds into the edited and amplified tape, I clearly hear the younger female say " I don't want to go back to jail ever"

Hello! How amazing! And this is just from the audio clips on the LA Magazine article? The last thing you found about jail really shook me up.

Relentless, I sent you a PM, too. I hear the, "I don't won't to go back to jail, ever" part, but I don't hear a name. I'll try another set of headphones when I can find them.

This is clearly a family having a discussion in the background and not television. This is a serious discussion, not one just friends would have.
In 1978, long distance calls were very expensive and showed up on the telephone bill. However, local calls were free and did not show up on the phone bill. He most likely would not risk getting questioned about a costly long distance call, so I'd say this call was made from a relative's house in the same area code as the victim.

Good stuff guys. What date in January 1978 was this call made. January 30th 1978 was the date Richard Chase, the "Vampire of Sacramento" was arrested. EAR/ONS had to have known about that arrest because it was all over in the news.
automated voice saying"full". What could that be in 1978

Hello Guys
I will work on a transcript and post.
Yes, this is a serious family discussion and I think the daughter is trying to get money out of the father for some kind of legal trouble she is in, hence the "I don't want to go back to jail, ever.". The mother is not happy about whatever is going on. At this point I don't think the caller is part of the family, maybe a boyfriend. I believe this tape was recorded on Jan. 8, 1978

Another way of looking at it. EAR/ONS, unemployed girlfriend and child over at the girlfriend's family to ask for money to pay the girlfriend's court fine. ear/ons sees it as an opportunity to make the call from there.
Or
His sister is over with her child to see his Dad and Mom to get some money. So a good time for him to call when the relatives are talking to each other.

I think the automated Full was from an answering machine letting you know your tape was full, seems I recall hearing that back in the day.

I know that it is very speculative, but if EAR/ONS did have a sister, who was in and out of jail, then once he realised that their similar DNA was likely to become an issue, could it be possible that EAR/ONS murdered his sister, to protect himself? Could his own sister be on a list of unsolved murders/missing persons?

Great job, relentless!
For my benefit, could you give a background summary of the January, 1978 phone call.
For example, how do we know that the call was from EAR? How do we know the receiver is a victim? From what source did you acquire the phone call?
Just some standard stuff like that.
Cheers, and keep posting.

So I have a question. If relentless can do this with an audio file taken off the Internet did LE do it a long time ago with the original recording. And did it lead somewhere or was it just another dead end. I'm a long way from home right now and my tablet won't let me DL the file so no opinion as to content. I'll have to wait to get home to listen.

How do we know the receiver is a victim? From what source did you acquire the phone call? The woman who received the call was an EAR victim. She recognized the caller's voice as EAR. Sac Sheriff Dept. has verified these facts. If they have analyzed the voice recording, they have made no public mention of it. I tried to analyze it myself about 10 years ago, but couldn't make anything of it. This is some very nice work, and a testimonial for LE to re-investigate these crimes using new technologies. Dogs

Relentless, I'm going to wait a little longer to hear what he comes up with and then we can compare notes. I'm psyched; I hope he has something for me tonight.

The filedropper link attempted to download all kinds of adware etc. can someone send me a clean link or the audio file itself ? Scroll down past the first "Download" Button to the black oval one one that says "Download the file". You click on that and then it gives you a code to put in to prove you are a human. After that it downloads normal.
