If anyone has any additional information re; the murder of Jane Bennington, Age 29, in her apartment in Corona Del Mar, CA on Aug. 2nd, 1977... please let me know. Her and her roommate were good friends of my mother and both spent quite a bit of time with us at our home prior to the murder.
I have recently seen the Bill Kurtis documentary re; EAR... and it has led me to believe that this person may be responsible. I'm also wondering if DNA that has recently been connected to several unsolved OC murders in the 80's as well as the EAR rapes in Sacramento has been tested in Jane's murder and if anyone might have this information or resources to find out this information.
My email address is kirk@rkitv.com
thank you.

As a follow up to all who have been wondering, apparently Cold Case detectives in Orange County have checked the crime scene DNA from the murder of Jane Bennington, Aug. 2, 1977 in Corona Del Mar, CA... and have yet to find a match. This DNA has been tested against thousands of cases including the EAR/ONS, Randy Kraft, Orange Coast Killer, etc.
This remains an unsolved murder not connected to any serial killers in Southern California at a time when multiple killings seemed to be a daily occurrence.
Since Jane was a friend of our family, I wanted to set straight some of the misconceptions that have been discussed on this website concerning this case.
First of all, there has been speculation as to why the roommate didn't think about seeing the sliding glass door open when she got home. The fact is, it was a hot August night. Both women had gone to a local nightclub, but got into a disagreement. When the roommate got home, she heard noises in Jane's room, but didn't think anything about it. According to the roommate who stayed with us for a couple of months after the murder, the noises she heard had to be the murderer since time of death was calculated to be prior to her arriving home.
The roommate didn't check on Jane until the following morning when she received a phone call for Jane. She entered her room to let her know there was a phone call, and that is when she discovered the bludgeoned body and called police. A window in the room had the screen punched out, apparently where the killer jumped to escape.
It is unfathomable to me that someone raped/strangled/and beat or bludgeoned her to death and has never been caught. I also can't imagine that somebody who had the capability to do this, wouldn't ever do it again. I have spent a lot of time trying to look at other related crimes in the same area and around the same time frame. So far... nothing.
IF anyone has any information on other similar crimes around that time frame and area, especially if they are unsolved... I'd like to know about them.
Cold Case detectives have told me that they are continuing to check DNA on a regular basis. I can only hope this is true and that someday a match will take place and some questions can be answered.
If you know anything that you can share with me that might shed more light on this matter, please email me: kirk@rkitv.com
Thanks

Kirk: Kirk, I came across the Lori Rosen article while researching other unsolved cases that might be related to Ears ONS. The article was written by Santa Barbara News Press reporter Dawn Hobbs in 2002-3. Perhaps you could contact her for more info. Here is a site that lists many CAlifornia cold cases: www.coldcasecenter.com/There are a couple other unsolveds from 1977 that you may want to look at. It sounds like these young women went to similar nightclubs and I believe at least two of them were nurses: i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm241/portofleith-2008/stallcup2.jpg Good luck in your quest for justice for Jane- Port

Porto - Thanks for the info. Very interesting. The photobucket website did not come up, however. But thanks anyway. I also just received an interesting email from someone in Stockton who believes he knows a guy who was questioned by Police in Stockton but apparently lived or stayed for a while in Seal Beach here in Orange County. Anyone ever hear of a suspect for the EAR-ONS with the initials DK?? He was supposedly questioned by the Police regarding the EAR rapes but after his father brought on a lawsuit, he was released and never followed up with. Just throwing it against the wall to see if anything sticks!!!

K, To get the photobucket link to work you have to paste the wrap around that is not hyperlinking at the bottom. These three murders occurred in 1977 and the women all frequented the same nightclubs. I think Janet ,though, was on her way to a party at a restaurant: i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm241/portofleith-2008/stallcup2.jpgI have other articles about Janet's murder if you are interested. Thanks for pbutting on the info about DK(you should edit post to list initials only). I will forward that info on to Archangel. Port
