I was thinking about how the EAR could travel around and not be noticed, especially when everyone had somewhat of a description of him. The only person who should be in my neighborhood, early in the morning, on a bike, going to each house, sometimes ringing doorbells, is the PAPERBOY. I just wonder if and how completely that was checked out?
I sometimes am awakened by the sound of the paperboy early in the morning, and never bat an eye.

That's a good theory! A paperboy would certainly be able to do quite a bit of recon/casing out/getting to know the habits of/comings, goings of potential victims without raising much suspicion.

There are two facts going against that:
1: The many different area in which he worked, the only way that would have worked is if he was a route supervisor.
2: The Sacramento Bee changed to a morning daily in around April, 1978. Prior to that only the Sacramento Union delivered in the early AM.
But were there ever an possible encounters reported by any of those early morning??

What if EAR-ONS was a wealthy, born with a silver spoon in his mouth child? That would explain him not seeming out of place in upper-middle-class neighborhoods, his motive obviously not being robbery, being able to travel all across California (possibly attending UCSF, UC Berkeley and transferring to SoCal for Grad School?) It would also be a way of explaining his 'holier-than-thou' attitude he so brazenly exhibited when committing his crimes.
